About the event

Living up to its reputation as one of the best day’s out in Kent this Autumn, St Christopher’s annual Classic Car Show in Tripes Farm, Orpington drew in over 4,000 visitors on Sunday 18 September. An astonishing collection of 450 pre and post war vehicles gleamed side-by-side across the show ground and were presented in immaculate condition.

A beautiful 1955 Le Mans winner Mike Hawthorn D-type Jaguar worth millions of pounds was a huge pull for serious car enthusiasts, but the breadth of other vehicles on display didn’t fail to impress and included Cadillacs, a DeLorean, a 1965 Jaguar E-type and a 1973 Lotus Elan together with many other classic and modified cars, motorbikes and buses.

The event was generously sponsored by Bromley-based Brownhill Insurance Group. St Christopher’s was also delighted to welcome Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Ian F. Payne, to admire the vehicles on display and enjoy the warm atmosphere.

Although the money is still being counted, it is hoped that with such tremendous community support St Christopher’s Classic Car Show has raised over £20,000 to support the hospice’s vital work.

A fantastic local Lindy Hop dance group performed throughout the day and kept feet in the crowd tapping, as did the live 60’s and 70’s rock band. Children flocked to try-out the bouncy castle and assault course, go-karts and quad bikes, and the wide selection of delicious street foods, cakes, drinks and ice cream on sale also meant that no-one went hungry.

Sarah Coughtrie, fundraiser at St Christopher’s says, “What a fantastic day! We are always so overwhelmed by the support St Christopher’s Car Show is given by everyone who comes to visit, take part or volunteer. We couldn’t have held such an amazing day without the help of our local Rotary Clubs, Bromley Police Cadets and 228 Bromley Air Force Cadets and Trinity School, Croydon. Thanks also to Keith Barry from Brooklands Museum, who was a great support, as well as Gap Group Hire solutions”.
