About the event

The Level 3 Award is a City & Guilds knowledge based vocational qualification which we offer with an additional unit on dementia.

The units are:

  • Understand how to work in end of life care
  • Understand how to provide support when working in end of life care
  • Understand how to support individuals during the last days of life
  • End of life and dementia care.

Some independent work will need to be carried out outside the four days learning, to complete the assignment workbook within two weeks of course close. Comprehensive resources are provided.

The end of life care dementia unit is part of the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care which forms part of the current Advanced Apprenticeship. Units achieved can be carried forward into future qualifications.

Successful completion will give you the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care and the End of Life and Dementia Care unit (12 credits in total).

  • What will I learn?

You will learn about various aspects of end of life care, communication, managing discomfort and supporting individuals with loss. An understanding of dementia and its effect at end of life is also covered.

  • Course tutors

St Christopher’s education staff are dual professionals, with clinical roles and teaching qualifications. These specialist staff work with patients and families in end of life care and are skilled in introducing the subjects using participative methods, ensuring that there are opportunities for individual reflection and the sharing of ideas.

Individual tutorials to support learners are given at the end of each taught day.

More about St Christopher's education

St Christopher’s Education Centre and VAT charges

At St Christopher's, a registered charity, it is important for us to maximise any surpluses to reinvest in the objectives of the charity.

Unfortunately, the manner in which we undertake our training currently means we are not able to invest as much of our surplus as possible, therefore from the 1 December 2017, St Christopher’s Education Centre will charge VAT at the standard rate on our training courses, the reason for this change in pricing is twofold:

i) We want to be able to reinvest any surpluses made from training back into all of our charitable objectives rather than only Education

ii) We want to be able to reclaim the VAT on costs relating to developing and running the training courses
