Useful information

"And you get that relationship... touch builds a relationship between people doesn’t it? … The people that do the Namaste, I see them doing it and enjoying it, and you see the expression. They are very calm. So in that moment there is a really good bond between the staff and the resident"

Equipping those who wish to promote and implement the Namaste Care Programme

About the event

Namaste was introduced to the UK by Prof Joyce Simard in 2010. The programme is multidimensional, including physical, sensory and emotional elements; combining compassionate nursing care with individualised meaningful activities. There has been widespread interest from the care home sector and from hospices. Research has shown that the Namaste Care Programme can effectively reduce agitation in people with advanced dementia. This has a significantly positive effect on the quality of life for residents and also impacts on the experience of families and care staff.

Since 2014 St Christopher’s have been running Namaste workshops for care home staff wishing to improve care for people with advanced dementia through this person-centred programme. We now wish to offer support and training to others who wish to promote the Namaste Care Programme.

More about St Christopher's education

St Christopher’s Education Centre and VAT charges

At St Christopher's, a registered charity, it is important for us to maximise any surpluses to reinvest in the objectives of the charity.

Unfortunately, the manner in which we undertake our training currently means we are not able to invest as much of our surplus as possible, therefore from the 1 December 2017, St Christopher’s Education Centre will charge VAT at the standard rate on our training courses, the reason for this change in pricing is twofold:

i) We want to be able to reinvest any surpluses made from training back into all of our charitable objectives rather than only Education

ii) We want to be able to reclaim the VAT on costs relating to developing and running the training courses
