Fun Walk 2019

Date, location and timings

Date: Sunday 19 May
Address: Keston Common, Keston, Kent, BR2 6BP

For your safety you must sign in on arrival. You can start your walk any time from 8.30am and last check in time (dependent on route). We do not need to know your route in advance.

Please note that if walking the 8 mile or 11 mile route, you need to start by 12pm.

  • Green Route 3 miles (last check-in time 3pm)
  • Pink Route 5 miles (last check-in time 3pm)
  • Blue Route 8 miles (last check-in time 12pm)
  • Yellow Route 11 miles (last check-in time 12pm) 

We ask you to return no later than 5:30pm when the event finishes, for us to congratulate you and to receive your medal!

Can I register on the day?

Yes, you will be able to register on the day however the registration fee will be higher than the pre-register amount. We encourage everyone to register in advance. Advance registration will close on Tuesday 14 May 2019.

Registration fees

Your registration fee covers the event administration events and registration fee is non-refundable.

Adults

  • £5 (to 31 January)
  • £8 (1 February to 7 March)
  • £10 (8 March to 14 May)

Age 12 and under

  • FREE

Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. If you are under 18, you must have parental consent to take part.

Are teams allowed?

Yes, please let us know that you are signing up as a team and include your team name.

T-shirts purchase and collection dates

Participants are able to purchase a t-shirt for £5. T-shirts are first come, first served and subject to availability.

T-shirts will be available to purchase and pick up prior to the event on certain collection days.

There will be limited t-shirts available on the day at Keston. We are asking all participants to collect their t-shirts before day. Dates to be confirmed. 

The route

All routes on the walk start and finish at Keston Common (opposite the Greyhound pub). You don’t have to be super fit to take part.

There are routes for all abilities (3, 5, 8 and 11 miles). The walk is not a race.

We will give you a copy of the map and instructions at the event.

Wheelchairs and prams

Unfortunately the routes are not suitable for those using a wheelchair or pram as they contain stiles and narrow footpaths through the countryside.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome but need to be on a lead.

Bicycles and scooters

We do not allow the use of bicycles or scooters on this walk.

Wearing the right shoes and clothes

Please make sure you wear some comfortable and supportive shoes or trainers. The weather can vary so do come prepared for anything.

Cloakroom facilities

There are no cloakroom facilities, so you will not be able to leave your belongings behind when you do the walk.

Refreshments

There will be hot food and refreshments to purchase on the day at the start/finish point at Keston Common.

Do I have to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship?

We ask all walkers to raise as much sponsorship as possible.

Paying in sponsorship

You can pay in your monies on the day or send them to
The Fundraising Department at St Christopher’s, 51-59 Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham, London, SE26 6DZ no later than Friday 28 June 2019.

Walkers Guide

In the run up to the event we will email you your online Walkers Guide that will cover everything you will need. This will include event & safety information, fundraising tips and sponsorship form.

Travelling by car

There is very restricted parking around the common with only a few car parks for public use.

Bus Shuttle service

We suggest you take advantage of our free ‘park and ride’ service from Norman Park or our pick-up and drop-off service from Bromley South Station. This has kindly been provided free of charge by Stagecoach Selkent in support of Fun Walk. Timings to be confirmed.

I am no longer able to take part, what should I do?

Please let us know by emailing funwalk@stchristophers.org.uk or calling the team on 020 8768 4575. If you are unable to participate in the Fun Walk for any reason, all monies collected in support of St Christopher’s must be offered back to the individual sponsors or forwarded to the charity if sponsors do not want their donations returned.
