General Donations

General - or unrestricted - donations provide the broadest way of supporting St Christopher’s.  They enable us to provide the expert medical care and ongoing support that our patients and their families need every day of the year.

It costs over £14 million to deliver all of our services.  Only about a third of this comes from the NHS.  This means that we need to raise more than £9 million from our supporters and the local community.

Because we rely so heavily on donated income, this means that all areas of our work need your support; from our four in-patient wards and home-care services delivered by specialist doctors, nurses and other care professionals; through to the social work, bereavement support, creative activities and spiritual care we provide to all of our patients and their families.

Graph showing where your money goes

See where your money goes:

  • 81 pence out of every pound we receive is spent directly on supporting patients and families

  • A further 8 pence is spent on training 7,000 health care professionals so that they can provide the best possible care to many more people across the UK and beyond

  • 11 pence goes to raising even more money
