Ron Pullen

Ron PullenRon is 76 years old and comes to the Anniversary Centre at St Christopher’s once a week.

Ron was a fairly active person and was always out and about, but when he found out he had lung cancer his world changed, “When I was diagnosed I was depressed at first. But then I just though I had to get on with it.”

Like most people, Ron hadn’t heard of St Christopher’s. “My initial reaction was the same as a lot of people – when you think about hospices you think about dying.”

But once he started coming, the reality couldn’t have been more different.  “The people are wonderful here and they treat me very well.  And I have made some good friends”. As well as seeing health professionals and attending the day centre, Ron has physiotherapy at the hospice, it helps to keep me fit; when I first came out of hospital I was over 18 stone, now I’m down to 15 stone”.

“Coming to St Christopher’s is terribly important to me.  It’s one of the days I can get out, actually get dressed.”

This year Ron and his family completed the Fun Walk for the second time.  He has so far helped to raise a massive £7,500.
