Game of Thrones actor gets set to glow at St Christopher’s Moonlight Walk Saturday 8 October
Beckenham resident and actor Jay (Junade) Khan, best known for roles in Game of Thrones and Hollyoaks, and who teaches drama at local PopGems Academy, will be taking part in St Christopher’s Moonlight Walk for the first time this year on Saturday 8 October 2016. The sponsored walk starts from 9pm in the hospice grounds at 51 – 59 Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham, and is a fantastic community event full of warmth and positivity.
Jay comments, “St Christopher’s is a very special place and I really wanted to take part in a fundraising event for the hospice this year to show support. My wife, Gem, and I will be doing the walk together along with some of our students, although, as a dance teacher, Gem’s probably a lot fitter than me so I hope that it’s not a race!”
Keen walkers, or just keen St Christopher’s supporters, can now register for the hospice’s annual Moonlight Walk on Saturday 8 October for the Early Bird fee of £15 until 16 September (£20 thereafter). All the money raised in sponsorship from Moonlight Walk will go directly to St Christopher’s Bereavement Services.
New for 2016, there are two Moonlight Walk routes to choose from. The circular family-friendly 3.5 mile ‘Hospice Loop’ starts and finishes at the hospice in Sydenham. The ‘Point-to-Pint’ route is for over 21’s only and is a 4 mile route starting in the hospice and ending at Westow House Public House in Crystal Palace.
Last year hundreds of walkers took part in the event to remember a loved one, while many just walked for fun, but everyone who takes part is supporting the work that St Christopher’s does across the South East London community. This year walkers are encouraged to ‘get glowing’ and use glow sticks and fluorescent headbands to brighten-up the October night for a great cause.
St Christopher’s supports people of all ages through its bereavement service, for as long as they need help. Last year, 1,229 people accessed St Christopher’s adult bereavement services, while 296 families and 471 children were supported by specialist child bereavement project, Candle. The generous support of the local community keeps St Christopher’s bereavement work funded, and helps those who have lost a loved one get through the difficult time of grief.
