HRH Princess Alexandra makes annual visit to St Christopher’s Hospice

St Christopher’s was delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra to the hospice in Sydenham on 11 January 2018.  The Princess is Patron of the hospice and visits every year.

Her Royal Highness was greeted by Morgan Jones, Chairman of St Christopher’s Board and St Christopher’s Joint Chief Executive, Shaun O’Leary. Her Royal Highness was then taken on a tour of the wards by Anne Nash, matron of the inpatient unit, where the Princess met with patients and spoke to their families.

Princess Alexandra opened the hospice 50 years ago, when pioneer Dame Cicely Saunders established St Christopher’s as the world’s first modern hospice. Her Royal Highness also opened St Christopher’s Education Centre in 1973, and so was interested to hear the latest news about St Christopher’s plans for a new, world-class education centre. Building works will commence on the new education centre, known as the Learning Hub, in Spring 2018.

After visiting the wards, the Princess then met with patients, families and volunteers in the hospice’s Anniversary Centre, where the Princess was presented with flowers from a patient.
