The library contains material on:

  • All aspects of hospice and palliative care
  • Bereavement
  • Death and dying
  • Spiritual and pastoral care in health settings
  • Ethics and euthanasia
  • Communication and counselling skills
  • Specific diseases related to specialist palliative care, eg cancer, motor neurone disease (ALS), AIDS
  • Literature to support the particular needs of individual health professionals working in hospice and specialist palliative care – eg nurses, doctors, social workers, physiotherapists, complementary therapists
  • Literature to support management and policy for staff and students using the library eg books on management, relevant Dept of Health publications, collection of in-house procedures and policies
  • Literature to support specific courses – eg Masters degree in Palliative Care and Policy held jointly with Kings College, London, NVQ levels 2 and 3 in health and social care
  • A collection of biography, personal accounts, fiction and poetry on death, dying and bereavement
  • A collection of children’s books for bereaved children and for death education in the classroom. Publications by St Christopher’s Hospice staff
