Course Details

This study day will enable participants to explore some of the various challenges that arise in caring for people with dementia and their carers throughout the trajectory, including end of life.
 
Learning outcomes
 
At the end of the study day, participants will be able to: 

1. Understand what is dementia, its presentation, diagnosis, associated and its signs and symptoms 

2. Understand underlying causes for behaviours in dementia that challenge caregivers

3. Explore issues of advance care planning for people with dementia and the supporting legal framework

4. Identify the key health care issues for end of life care in dementia; pain assessment and management; nutrition and hydration; etc

5. Awareness of frameworks to assist prognostication and quality care provision

6. Recognise key local and national service providers specialising in dementia and palliative care with whom collaboration can be developed
