Being able to make sure transport is available to those most in need is extremely important to us
St Christopher’s provides patients that meet the qualifying criteria with a Transport Pass for 12 return journeys, which will then be reviewed with a member of the St Christopher’s team.
We would kindly ask that, during your 12 journeys, you think about alternative means of transport for the future. Again, we would be more than happy to support you in making these arrangements – please do speak to a member of the St Christopher’s team if you would like further support with this.
As well as introducing our Transport Pass we are asking all those who benefit from our transport services to make a voluntary contribution of £10 per return journey. Donations can be paid at Reception on your arrival to the hospice by card or cash.
Benefits for mobility and additional transport costs
We also recognise that some of you may be in receipt of a benefit from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to assist with mobility and additional transport costs – usually a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or a Disability Living Allowance (DLA) mobility payment. These can be used to fund your transport costs to St Christopher’s and, if you do not receive a payment, then our Welfare Team would be happy to assist you in securing one.
Journey Times and Vehicles
Please bear in mind that, as a charity funded service, we have limited vehicles which include both minibuses and cars. We will, of course, make sure your journey is booked for a vehicle appropriate to your needs and would kindly ask that:
- for morning appointments please be ready by 9am
- for afternoon appointments please be ready by 12pm
Please also note that it may not be possible to take you home immediately after your appointment finishes and that we can only offer a return journey back to your place of residence and are not able to provide stop offs. This is to make sure we can provide transport for everyone who needs it.
