Quilting
The final session before Christmas for the Wednesday evening Quilting Group will be Wednesday 7 December and will this will start again on Wednesday 4 January 2012.
The Quilting group will be working on a new design created by a member of the group which very eloquently describes the experience of losing a partner. These creations will form part of a project which we are running in partnership with the Royal Academy of Art and David Hockney in the spring of 2012.
Patients, carers, bereaved friends and relatives as well as the wider community are all welcome to come along to these groups and workshops. Staff and volunteers also take part. Our Wednesday evening quilting group is proving to be very popular and we are making good progress with the first of many quilts.
As a starting point, the group is working on one large patchwork quilt together which will be displayed in the hospice as soon as it is finished. The quilt is hand sewn as this process is more relaxing and much quieter so that everyone is able to talk if they wish.
Quilting is very easy - sewing is done by a simple running stitch which is very easy to pick up even if you have never sewn before. The group is open to anyone of any age or ability. Everyone is welcome. It is a great way to meet new people and it is exciting as the quilt starts to grow. Come and see for yourself!
