Born to be wild

Six members of our Young Adults Group had a wild weekend at Wilderness

A couple of weekends ago six members of the St Christopher’s Young Adults Group went along to Wilderness Festival accompanied by eleven members of staff, all of whom volunteered their time, five volunteers and four paid carers.

The young adults and their team arrived at Wilderness and were welcomed with a lovely BBQ provided by the Festival Spirit team. They had beautiful accommodation in the accessibility zone with hospital beds, hoists, portable oxygen and electricity meaning that the young adults who needed specialist breathing equipment were able to attend the festival and sleep safely overnight.

The whole group had a brilliant time watching the performances from the viewing platform and shopping at the stalls. The young adults tried an array of different foods but they couldn’t be tempted by the wood pigeon wrap! They then partied in an afterhours music area called The Valley until 5am.

When they came back they were helped to bed by their St Christopher’s buddies who also attended the festival. The young adults received IV antibiotics and other IV medication that enabled them to go to the festival and not have to stay in hospital. They also spotted stars including David Cameron, Mary Portas and Dame Helen Mirren!
