Volunteers’ Week is an annual campaign celebrated from the 1-7 June. Established in 1984, the week was created to recognise the contribution volunteers make to our communities every day.
Caritas Garden Volunteers
Anyone who visits Caritas can’t help but be charmed by the gardens. The variety, the colour, the luxury of the green and the lushness of the growth, convey feelings of peace and ease and give great comfort to the patients.
“All of this work has been done by volunteers in the last 12 years” explains Marcus Eames, Facilities Manager, “every shrub, tree, flower has been planted by them and before they did that they had to dig up roots, stumps and stones. It’s been hard work!” But that work has truly paid off and volunteers find themselves getting a lot out of it too. “It’s great to be able to work with such a large space” says Cliff Hope, working alongside his wife Steph who agrees, “and it’s great just being active and outside,” she says. And are there any other good reasons to volunteer? “It beats hoovering!” says Elizabeth Greenwood.
Thank you so much to all our volunteers! No matter how much time you give, you are doing something truly amazing for us.
