This conference will aim to bring together people from diverse disciplines and interest groups to explore the nature and focus of spiritual care for people who are dying or grieving in today’s world. The event will explore the notion of spiritual pain and its manifestations in a society shaped by the impact of a global pandemic, increasing secularization, changing demographics and depleted systems of support and care. Working with an action-focus, we will consider how individuals, organisations, and community groups might respond, focused, in particular, on helping individuals to find meaning reflective of their lives, values and beliefs, to their benefit and those close to them.
Throughout the course of the day we will reflect on the history of spiritual care in hospice and palliative care and how we can learn from that to help shape and deliver an appropriate contemporary response. Within that we will explore how this is made available to those at risk of marginalisation and exclusion from mainstream support and services, thereby increasing inequalities in this regard.
We are delighted to announce that the day will include a presentation from the renowned Palliative Care professional and bestselling author Dr Kathryn Mannix, who will remind us all of the value of listening with a talk on the power of compassionate listening.

At St Christopher's, a registered charity, it is important for us to maximise any surpluses to reinvest in the objectives of the charity.
Unfortunately, the manner in which we undertake our training currently means we are not able to invest as much of our surplus as possible, therefore from the 1 December 2017, St Christopher’s Education Centre will charge VAT at the standard rate on our training courses, the reason for this change in pricing is twofold:
i) We want to be able to reinvest any surpluses made from training back into all of our charitable objectives rather than only Education
ii) We want to be able to reclaim the VAT on costs relating to developing and running the training courses
