Getting to the Fun Walk

Stagecoach Selkent have kindly offered to provide a free ‘Park and Ride’ service from Norman Park as well as a pick-up and drop-off service from Bromley South Station.

You can register for the event online. We strongly encourage everyone to register this way, if you are unable to access the internet please call the Fun Walk team on 020 8768 4575.

All walkers must register in advance. Advance registration closes on 13 September. You will be sent your walker number in the post ahead of the event which must be worn on the day.

Your entry fee contributes to the running costs of Fun Walk and registration fee is non-refundable. The registration fee increases each month.

Walkers of all ages are welcome to take part. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you are under 18, you must have parental consent to take part.

The event officially starts at 8.30am. It is important that you arrive at the event to start your walk at the time you booked at registration. We ask you to return no later than 5:30pm when the event finishes, for us to congratulate you and to receive your medal!

Yes, please let us know that you are signing up as a team. Please include your team name.

Absolutely, it’s a lovely way to remember a loved one. Please let us know when you register who you are walking in memory of.

There are four routes (3, 5, 8 or 11 miles) starting at finishing at Keston Common. The walk is not a race and you can choose the distance that suits you. We do not need to know what route you are doing in advance. You will be provided a map of all of all the routes.

As the routes contain stiles and narrow footpaths through the countryside, unfortunately the routes are not suitable for those using a wheelchair or pram.

Yes, dogs are welcome but do make sure you clear up any mess, keep dogs on leads where applicable. Please read The Countryside Code Leaflet

We do not allow the use of bicycles or scooters on this walk.

Please make sure you wear some comfortable and supportive shoes or trainers. The weather can vary so do come prepared for anything and check the forecast beforehand. The walks are country walks so the paths are uneven and can be muddy if it has rained.

By car: There is restricted parking around the common with only a few car parks for public use.

Bus Shuttle service: We suggest you take advantage of our free ‘park and ride’ service from Norman Park or our pick-up and drop-off service from Bromley South Station. This has kindly been provided free of charge by Stagecoach Selkent in support of Fun Walk.

Participants are able to purchase a t shirt for £10 adult size and £5 per junior size. T-shirts are first-come first service and subject to availability.

T-shirts will be available to purchase and pick up prior to the event on certain collection days.

Absolutely, the more creative, the better. We encourage everyone to dress up for the occasion, and there will be prizes for the best outfit!

There are no cloakroom facilities, so you will not be able to leave your belongings behind when you do the walk.

There will be hot food and refreshments and drink to purchase on the day at the start/finish point at Keston Common.

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. We have introduced

  • wave times which have to be booked when registering to ensure there is a maximum number of people arriving at the same time.
  • contact free registration will walker numbers and maps being posted prior to the event
  • hand sanitise points at the start/finish

We ask all our walkers to be considerate of their and others wellbeing and we recommend the following

  • Always stick to the 2m rule – stay at 2m distance from members of the public (as per government guidelines)
  • Bring hand sanitiser – you will come into contact with gates and fences, please sanitise your hands to protect both yourself and others
  • Do not walk if you show any symptoms of Covid-19
  • Do not walk if you have come into contact with anyone with symptoms of Covid-19
  • Wear a face covering when at the start and finish and if you enter any public spaces along the route
  • Stay up to date, with and adhere to the current government guidelines

You can walk at your own pace, whatever your fitness level, but please ensure the distance you choose is right for you, especially If you’re taking on the longer routes.

Although there is no minimum sponsorship, we do encourage you to raise as much as you can, as your registration fee only contributes to the cost of putting on the event. The walk relies on your sponsorship to be successful. To motivate you to your fundraising milestones, this year we have some prizes to be won.

All the money raised through your online fundraising Fun Walk page will be directed straight to the hospice bank account. You can pay in your money raised offline by sending a cheque made payable to St Christopher’s to:
Fun Walk HQ, St Christopher’s Hospice, 51-59 Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham, London, SE26 6DZ no later than Sunday 24 October 2021.

Please let us know by emailing or calling the team on 020 8768 4575. If you are unable to participate in the Fun Walk for any reason, all monies collected in support of St Christopher’s must be offered back to the individual sponsors or forwarded to the charity if sponsors do not want their donations returned. You must not attend the event if you show any symptoms of Covid-19 or if you have come in to contact with anyone with symptoms of Covid-19.
