St Christopher’s Information Hub
Supporting UK hospices to achieve their full potential as local education and training delivery partners
An integral part of St Christopher’s Learning Hub
St Christopher’s Learning Hub is not just a new building. The Learning Hub is an approach to education and training that acknowledges that without partnerships and collaborative working we are not going to find effective solutions to the existing and growing challenges of caring for people in society who are in the last phase of their lives.
The Information Hub, an integral part of St Christopher’s Learning Hub, provides access to news, information and resources to enable our communities of practice, whether professionals or informal carers, to do the very best we can to make the greatest difference to the experience of those who are at end of life and their families.
The hospice sector faces great challenges but also many opportunities. We hope that the Information Hub will support our collective voice and empower our organisations to play an active role in future education and development of the workforce to deliver improved end of life care.
The Apprenticeship agenda and other vocational developments
To ensure sensitive and skilled end of life care wherever the person is being cared for, the wider healthcare sector requires a flexible, well trained and stable workforce.
We need to find additional ways of attracting diverse groups to careers in healthcare, offering progression and utilising Apprenticeships to provide debt free options into Nursing and other regulated healthcare roles.
It is increasingly important that hospices develop our ability to “grow our own”, becoming less reliant on recruiting externally to fill vacancies from a shrinking pool of qualified staff.
Apprenticeships and other vocational developments offer us new opportunities and to optimise the benefits these bring and embed initiatives within our workforce development approaches requires a firm grasp of the detail. This is where the Information Hub can help.
