On Friday 11 September a Champagne Reception and Charity Auction took place in a superb garden in Keston Park, kindly donated to St Christopher’s for the weekend. Some of St Christopher’s most energetic supporters came together to fundraise for the hospice at an auction on Friday and a music event on Saturday. The events raised over £41,000 with donations still coming in.

The success of the Friday evening was partly due to the amazing prizes available in the auction. These included a cricket bat signed by the winning English Ashes Team which raised £2,500, a framed Yellow Tour de France Winner’s Jersey signed by two-time winner Chris Froome which raised £1,000, a football signed by the members of the First Team Chelsea Squad, donated by the Chelsea Foundation and lunch with Karen Millen. Thanks also to Darren Williams for his part in securing such excellent prizes and his expert running of the auction.

A silent auction running at the same time featured further amazing prizes, including a framed signed pair of Jennifer Lopez’s shorts and a tennis racquet signed by Boris Becker, donated by Barclays Bank Plc.

Fantastic entertainment was delivered in the form of Peter Snipp whose amazing crooning wowed the 300-strong audience and the excellent job that Nigel Humphriss made as compere for the evening.  As a grand finale Peter was joined by singing waiters whose operatic arias made everyone gasp, and the opportunity for some celebratory dancing at the end of the evening was not to be missed.

Jan Noble, lead for transformation and service development at St Christopher’s said “Thanks to everyone who helped make the event such a success especially our principal sponsor, Skill Crown Homes, and our hosts.  The money raised will help St Christopher’s continue to ensure all our specialist palliative and end of life services are delivered to our patients and their families free of charge.”

On Saturday12 September, the Neil Diamond Experience came to Keston Park with tribute act Bob Drury entertaining 300 supporters to their favourite sounds with the opportunity to sing along to music to put everyone in the mood for dancing. A fantastic night of fun was enjoyed by all with sponsors including Higgs butcher providing the BBQ and Laithwaites the drinks.
