Land Registry lays firm foundations of support for St Christopher’s

“I think we all wanted somewhere local that we had a connection with, and St Christopher’s seemed like the obvious choice.”
Jo Thomas
A mix of cake sales, sweepstakes, a concert and a skydive has helped Jo Thomas and her team at Land Registry in Croydon raise thousands of pounds for St Christopher’s since they started supporting the hospice more than a decade ago.
Jo, a Higher Registration Officer, remembers St Christopher’s being one of the first names suggested when a new manager in the office invited colleagues to nominate charities to support, back in 2012.
“I think we all wanted somewhere local that we had a connection with, and St Christopher’s seemed like the obvious choice.

“Over the years I feel like I’ve got know so much more about St Christopher’s. I read the newsletter regularly and have become more aware of people who’ve been cared for there – a colleague and the husband of a friend of mine. So, it’s become more and more relevant for me.”
Jo and the 20+ members of her team have been raising much needed cash for St Christopher’s by running sweepstakes for shows like The Great British Bake-Off and Strictly Come Dancing.
Jo’s particular sweepstake favourite is Eurovision, while Wimbledon and the Euros helped generate plenty of interest and funds last summer. Often, Jo says, those that win the sweepstake insist on donating the cash prize to St Christopher’s.
Cake sales were a regular feature of Land Registry Croydon’s fundraising activities pre-Covid and Jo has started capitalising on her colleagues love of baked goods again – all in a good cause!
Meanwhile, some of Jo’s co-workers have truly gone the extra mile for the hospice – one by skydiving and then an in-house band performed an office concert. Jo and her son completed a moonlight walk too.
To keep colleagues updated with activities at St Christopher’s, Jo always shares the newsletter and, makes sure to brief new members of the new on the relationship between the two organisations.

“I think there are so many opportunities for an organisation to support St Christopher’s as a corporate fundraiser. As well as doing all the cake sales and sweepstakes like we do, there are all the walks, cycle rides and other activities.
It’s such a good cause and it really strikes a chord with people as we’re all likely to need it one day.”
