There’s less than £150,000 to go!
Thanks to the success of our public campaign and the support of several trusts and foundations in recent months, we are delighted to let you know that we are tantalisingly close to our target for the Learning Hub.
We have just £150,000 still to raise, but we need to do this by end of the year, when the building will be complete.
Thank you for your support so far, which has been crucial in getting us to the final stages of our fundraising campaign! If you know anyone who might like to support the campaign and help us across the finishing line, please get in touch with the Campaign Team on 020 8768 4584.
Our plans for 2019
The building should be nearing completion in the autumn, when we plan to offer hard hat tours to supporters of the project so you can see how the Learning Hub is taking shape.
Around this time, we’ll also promote the Hub and the education programme within it to our community, to build excitement and make sure everyone is aware of our plans and how to access the Hub – it is a community resource after all!
Thanks to Castle Hayes Pursey for supporting our Festive Appeal!
We are delighted that Castle Hayes Pursey (CHP) have chosen to support the Learning Hub by match-funding some of the donations received through our Festive Appeal, which raised over £11,000 for the Learning Hub.
CHP have also worked on the building project for the Hub as the Quantity Surveyors – we are grateful for all their work and support for the project!
The business says: “Working with charities and local community projects is a large part of our corporate social responsibility programme. But our story with St Christopher’s Hospice goes deeper.
“Being the local hospice to our Purley headquarters, we have seen St Christopher’s grow, help and educate the local community over the last 30 years.
“So when they put forward the plans for their new Learning Hub – a state of the art teaching facility to help families, carers, and health and social care professionals in palliative care support – we wanted to be involved and help them not only with sponsorship but also through our cost management expertise.”
The building works progress month by month
Our contractor Jerram Falkus has been on site since late October, and the new building is starting to take shape.
Jerram Falkus established the site, diverted critical cables, excavated the site to then put down a base for the piling machinery.
the site was probed for unexploded bombs, and then we began to install the piles – a crucial part of the foundations of the building!
all the piles were completed and the ground beams connecting them were cast. The pit to accommodate the lift in the building was excavated and cast with concrete.
Jerram Falkus completed the foundations, finished casting the floor slab and started work erecting the steel frame. Unfortunately, high winds courtesy of storms Freya and Gareth prevented the crane from operating on a number of days – but now the weather has improved, the building programme is back on track!
