Aqeela Anwar Sheikh

Aqeela Anwar Sheikh is a UK trained Palliative Care Nurse Specialist currently working within the UAE. Aqeela’s belief is simply following the golden rule of palliative medicine, doing that which is beneficial and not which is harmful. Aqeela believes that Palliative medicine incorporates more than managing symptoms. It involves delivering emotive and challenging conversations based on advance care planning and allowing natural death. Patients do not exist in isolation, involving the family in all aspects of care will ensure a gold standard service. This involves meeting the needs of a holistic assessment focusing on physical, spiritual, psychological, social aspects of care.

Her clinical area of interests involves developing a pragmatic approach to Palliative medicine from a nursing perspective, dealing with symptom control, complex treatment decision-making at the end of life and developing the palliative care platform at national level for the UAE regionally within the GCC.
