As a palliative medicine physician a large part of my work is concerned with engaging service users in timely advance care planning. I joined the ambulatory MND service in Galway in 2021 to enhance accessibility to specialist palliative care for service users with MND. 

My MD addressed the palliative care needs of older patients with end stage renal disease and specifically looked at the barriers to advance care planning in this group of patients. 

Current research projects include Deprescribing in Patients with Advanced Cancer; DEPAC RCT and PAIR HF; A retrospective analysis of advance care planning and palliative care referral among heart failure patients in the West of Ireland.

Prior to specialist training in palliative medicine, I trained and worked as a general practitioner.
