After graduating from the University of Sheffield, Matt moved to Japan where he began his career as an English language teacher. After three years, Matt returned to the UK where he continued to teach at the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) of the University of Sheffield, developing his understanding of learning and teaching through the Cambridge DELTA, an advanced teaching qualification.

Matt has always had a passion for educational technology, incorporating technology both in and out of class in order to enhance the learning experience. This led to Matt moving from teaching to a role as a learning technologist, developing self-study materials as well as advising teachers at the ELTC on the use of educational technologies.

In 2021, Matt joined the Professional Learning team, first as a Learning Technologist and now as the Digital Learning Manager. He is responsible for promoting the effective use of educational technologies to enhance both online and blended teaching, the development of on-demand modules and guiding the department’s approach to digital learning. He is also the lead facilitator on Teach with CARE, a course designed to give healthcare professionals the basics of being effective educators.

To further his knowledge in the fields of education and educational technology, Matt passed with a distinction the MA in Digital Technology, Communication and Education from the University of Manchester.
