Pauline Uwamahoro
My name is Pauline Uwamahoro, RN, BScN, MScN. As a Rwandan nurse, educator at The University of Rwanda, Founder and Executive Director at St Rita Nursing Home and Community Based Palliative Care (CBPC-Rwanda ) , and champion for the Global Palliative Nursing Network (GPNN), my passion for palliative care has blossomed in recent years.
This reflection explores how the 2022 fellowship program by the Institute of Palliative Medicine (India) and St Christopher’s Hospice (UK) alongside the GPNN network, have been instrumental in shaping my path.
Taking Flight: St. Rita Nursing Home and GPNN Support. Fueled by my recently acquired knowledge and steadfast enthusiasm, I took immediate action to turn my dream into reality. Following the fellowship, I organized friends and coworkers to establish St. Rita Nursing Home and Community Based Palliative Care (CBPC-RWANDA). Witnessing its successful first year as a legal entity fills me with immense pride.
The GPNN has become my professional family. It offers a supportive network, invaluable mentorship, and continuous learning opportunities. I firmly believe every nurse would benefit immensely from discovering the GPNN. Together, as a global community united by palliative care, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those who need it most.
