Shelbi Baby
I am originally from India and living in Ireland since 2006. Currently I am working as a community palliative care clinical nurse specialist in St. Francis Hospice Dublin. It was by chance that I began working in palliative care in 2008. Within the first week of starting my work in the hospice, I knew that palliative care was my calling.
This made me wonder what was going on with palliative care in my own country, particularly in Kerala. While searching for it, I had the pleasure of meeting many lovely people from Kerala and learning about the amazing work they are doing to advance palliative care both locally and internationally. My interest in international palliative care expanded as a result of the connections I formed while participating in various palliative care programs offered by St. Christophers and IPM.
I really believe that equality and equity should be valued in all spheres of life. When I observe disparities in palliative care, particularly in low- and middle-income nations, it pains me, especially when it comes to resources. Therefore, I’m excited to contribute as much as I can to global palliative care through GPNN by advocating, teaching, and sharing ideas. Additionally, through GPNN, I would like to strengthen Ireland’s international collaboration in palliative care.
