Stella Mwari Rithara RN
Stella Rithara is one of active palliative care public health champion in Kenya and palliative care pioneer having been recognized by St. Christopher’s Hospice. She is a trained palliative care at Oxford Brookes University U.K with Post Graduate in Palliative Care, Attended Fellowship in Palliative Care at Institute of palliative care Medicine-India and a master class. She is a mentor at Institute of Palliative Medicine with strong leadership skills and Nurse leader’s trainer. She has mentored many palliative care providers and continues her passion across Kenya.
She developed the first ever Higher Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing program in a Government Institution.
Stella is the Founder and co-director of Ongata Ngong Palliative Care (ONPACC) a Community Based Organization established in 2012 that aims to promote Community health through capacity building on palliative care knowledge, community Health education, home healthcare services, and outreach clinics within Kajiado county in the Rift Valley Region of Kenya. She has developed an interest in advocating for localities and communities that had previously had no access to palliative or end-of-life care which has also been seen in her enthusiasm in tutoring and mentors students at the Kenya Medical Training College, Nairobi. She has participated and presented in several conferences across world
Stella joined IAHPC in June 2007 and she has been active in recruiting members to IAHPC. She looks forward to growing the membership data by recruiting more members from across, fundraising, support advocacy, as well as creating awareness on the care, decision making and policy.
