St Christopher’s Personal Care
It is with deep regret that we have decided to close St Christopher’s Personal Care Service on 11/08/20 and we are no longer accepting new clients.
Our priority now is ensuring our existing clients are supported throughout this period of transition and we will be doing what we can to help them find alternative care agencies so that no-one is left unsupported. Until that time, they will continue to receive the high quality care and support they have come to know from St Christopher’s Personal Care team.
This decision has been taken with a heavy heart – it is not news that we wanted to convey, or news which people will want to hear. For that reason we wanted to take the time to explain the reasons behind this closure which, for many years, we have done our best to avoid. You may be aware that St Christopher’s Personal Care Service is a separate business to our hospice charity but for the last seven years, and despite continued efforts, we have been unable to operate this service as a financially viable business. Instead, it has been subsidised by the hospice charity.
After much consideration we have decided we can no longer continue to subsidise the personal care business with charitable donations as we face growing challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. At St Christopher’s we must ensure we continue to support the growing numbers of terminally ill people across the five London Boroughs we support and continuing to support the Personal Care business financially and operationally is no longer feasible if this is to be the case.
We will, of course, do everything we can to support our staff through this difficult and unsettling time and we remain committed to resolving this situation as fairly and openly as possible.
We also want to reassure you that all other hospice services remain unaffected by this decision and continue to operate as usual.
If you have any questions about our planned closure please contact us on 020 8768 4648 and we will be happy to help.
