Advancing Palliative Care

At St Christopher’s, our mission is to provide skilled and compassionate palliative care of the highest quality. Central to this mission is our commitment to delivering evidence-based care.

This care is underpinned by robust research, the related processes of service evaluation, clinical audit and quality improvement, and is shared through education and training for health and social care professionals, community members, and a range of others in the field of end of life.

St Christopher’s vision is of a world in which all dying people and those close to them have access to equitable care and support when and wherever they need it.

As the landscape of living and dying evolves, the need for innovative research in palliative and end-of-life care has never been more pressing.

St Christopher’s are committed to playing a key role in advancing this field, fostering new models of care through strategic partnerships and ground-breaking research, alongside participating in, delivering and leading high-quality research to:

  • Improve the experience and outcomes of people living and dying with life-limiting conditions and those close to them
  • Confirm and strengthen the role of hospices as research active organisations 
  • Advancing the development of the health and social care workforce across the UK and in other parts of the world to provide evidence based palliative and end-of-life care

St Christopher’s prioritises research in three key areas:

Advancing clinical practice

Promoting the role of communities in end of life and redressing inequalities

Death, dying, loss and the role of hospice

We recognise the vital role of strategic partnerships in supporting this work and welcome new partners who find congruence between our vision, mission and research priorities and theirs.
