Thanks to your generous support, we have raised a phenomenal £6.5 million to build a new, world-class education centre within the grounds of the hospice in Sydenham. Work on the building is due to complete in Autumn 2020 and we are really excited to be able to get new education programmes underway from this flexible, modern and accessible centre.
There will still be some work to do in the winter around landscaping, demolishing the existing education building and planning a grand opening in 2021 (which has sadly been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing measures), but once it is open we will have a fantastic community space to share.
The new education building will be called the Centre for Awareness and Response into End of life or, for short, St Christopher’s CARE
Meanwhile, until it is safe to gather face-to-face once again, we continue to offer virtual learning sessions from our highly respected Education Team.
The new education building will be called the Centre for Awareness and Response into End of life or, for short, St Christopher’s CARE, and will be dedicated to continuing the pioneering spirit of our founder Dame Cicely Saunders. St Christopher’s CARE will offer a place to learn and share, as well as ask questions and find answers. It will be open to everyone, students, carers and patients, our local community and our global partners, to help ensure that people here in south east London, as well as around the world, get the care they deserve at the end of life.
We look forward to welcoming you inside soon.
