ShinyMind
A new partnership between St Christopher’s and ShinyMind is offering healthcare staff free wellbeing support to help manage the emotional challenges of end-of-life care.
We’re proud to announce our partnership with ShinyMind, a mental health and wellbeing app created with the NHS. This collaboration is helping to support the emotional health of hospice staff, while also improving the care they provide to patients and their families.
The ShinyMind app, which has already been made available to NHS nurses, midwives, and healthcare support workers across England, now includes a special End of Life Masterclass. This new resource has been developed specifically for those working in hospice and palliative care settings.

Why this matters

Working in end-of-life care is incredibly meaningful, but also emotionally demanding. Hospice staff face the daily challenge of supporting people through death, loss, and grief — often at great emotional cost to themselves.
Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of the Evans family — in memory of Siân Evans — St Christopher’s has been able to team up with ShinyMind to launch this new Masterclass and offer free access to the app for 3,000 hospice staff.
Co-designed by those who understand
What makes this initiative especially powerful is that it’s been shaped by the very people it’s designed to help. Hospice nurses, care workers, and other professionals shared their personal experiences and challenges to help build a Masterclass that truly reflects their needs. The content was refined with their feedback to make sure it was relevant, practical, and supportive.
What’s in the app?
The app offers quick, easy-to-use resources — including short videos, audio clips, and interactive tools — covering important topics such as:
- Building confidence
- Managing emotions and setting boundaries
- Having compassionate conversations
- Reflecting on experiences
- Coping with grief and loss
Heather Richardson, Senior Consultant for Professional Learning at St Christopher’s Hospice, explains:
‘The End of Life Masterclass is designed to address the emotional challenges faced by hospice staff delivering compassionate end-of-life care. This emotional burden can affect both the wellbeing of staff and the quality of care provided to patients and their families.
This new offer, focused on end of life, recognises the growing demands on nurses who are working with death and loss and offers a rich mix of information, activities and support in response. For nurses in palliative care, the app is a must– enabling them to continue making a real difference to those in their care, whilst protecting and nurturing themselves.’
All resources are backed by psychological research and are designed to support the wellbeing of hospice staff while also strengthening their ability to provide high-quality care.
