“I’ve never been a runner but somehow I found myself signing up for the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Motivated by the need to actually do some exercise and inspired to raise money for my favourite charity (but I guess I could be seen as being biased!).
“I started with the Couch to 5K training app and graduated to the 10k app and before long I found myself running longer distances. Nothing got in the way of training, I was determined – I even ran in Las Vegas whilst on holiday!
“I’m lucky – I have my health and plenty of time. Others are not so lucky, they don’t have their health and they are running out of time. Their plan is to live their remaining days without pain and in comfort – for this they need the help of St Christopher’s. I had a target of £350 to raise so set about planning a quiz night – this together with some sponsorship from family and friends meant I raised £1,066 without too much effort at all.
“On race day I felt ready for the challenge. I managed to have a smile on my face most of the way round and completed the event in 2 hours 32 minutes 45 seconds – not bad for a novice!”
