Your voice matters – empowering, compassionate singing

Relaunching in 2022, as part of the hospice community programme, the St Christopher’s Community Choir aims to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to people in the local area.

Due to number restrictions, it’s not possible to drop in on the day – please email Katie Rose katie@therosewindow.org with any enquiries.

St Christopher’s Community Choir:

  • Welcomes people of all cultures, creeds, orientations and genders to draw strength and inspiration from singing together
  • Offers singing respite to those facing or caring for loved ones experiencing life-changing illness and bereavement
  • Raises funds for and awareness about the hospice by participating in hospice and community events
  • Contributes to personal and social wellbeing through the wellbeing benefits of singing and building resilient, connected communities
  • Will be a safe, supportive, friendly group who enjoy singing and socialising together.

Led by Musical Director, Katie Rose, the music will involve:

  • Learning a set of songs over a term – both accompanied and a cappella, from a diverse range of genres – world, folk, pop – in three and four part harmony
  • Working towards a termly concert and other special events in a multi-cultural choir calendar
  • Participating in lively sessions beginning with a fun warm-up of stretches, breathing and vocal exercises followed by uplifting singing in harmony
  • Sharing audios and lyrics for home practice.

Please email Katie to join the choir.  Once places have been allocated,  a suggested donation of £5 per session or £60/£65 per 12/13 week term can be made via our donation page. Apologies, we cannot take cash payments.

All singers welcome, regardless of financial circumstances.

Upon registering, your personal details will be added to the choir database, which is held and managed by external Musical Director, Katie Rose.

You will be sent a weekly email newsletter during choir term time, containing information about the songs for each week.

All data is kept private, in line with GDPR and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Please be kind and mindful of people’s space during this challenging time:

  • Practice takes place in a spacious venue with room for social distancing
  • Choir members will be asked to produce a negative lateral flow test, taken on the afternoon of each practice
  • Choir members will be asked to wear a mask when not singing and when moving around the building
  • Choir members should bring their own refreshments
  • Choir members should bring their own lyrics sheets.

The choir takes place onsite in St Christopher’s CARE, St Christopher’s Hospice 51-59 Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham London, SE26 6DZ.
