Advanced Respiratory Disease and End of Life Care

This study day will introduce principles of palliative care for people with chronic respiratory disease. Join fellow nurses and allied health professionals who are working with people with chronic respiratory disease to compassionately navigate difficult conversations and to provide non-pharmacological advice to manage breathlessness.

The study day will include practical workshops, an online learning module about types of disability benefits, a tour of St Christopher’s Hospice and a chance to network with local professionals working in respiratory care.

  • Local community and hospice based respiratory nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Associate Healthcare Professionals
  • Palliative Care Nurses
  • Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Support workers

By attending this study day, you will:

  • know how to introduce advanced care planning conversations into their practice and the value of these conversations
  • be able to apply basic principles of the BTF (breathing thinking functioning) model to support patients experiencing anxiety and frustration associated with breathlessness and end of life
  • know the principles of rehabilitative person-centred palliative care and be able to identify how to apply these principles to their practice
