About us

This is a fantastic opportunity to work at a leading Hospice which aspires to a world in which all dying people and those close to them have access to care and support, whenever and wherever they need it. St Christopher’s Hospice was founded in 1967 by Dame Cicely Saunders and formed part of the modern hospice movement. Proudly celebrating over 50 years and with a turnover of over £20 million, we provide invaluable care and support to over 7,500 people across the five London Boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

Your new role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Doctor to join our dedicated medical team at St Christopher’s, on a 6-month fixed term contract. The post holder will primarily be based on the Inpatient Unit (IPU) and gain experience in specialist palliative care for patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions. In addition, experience of community palliative care will be available for the right applicant. There will be the opportunity to undertake non-resident on-calls when needed, with appropriate supervision.

Although this is a service rather than training post, the clinical and educational opportunities available offer an excellent grounding for applications to a specialty training rotation in Palliative Medicine. The post also offers valuable experience for those intending to incorporate Palliative Medicine into a future career in General Practice or a hospital specialty.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council.

Benefits of joining St Christopher’s

  • You will gain a stimulating and rewarding role with an opportunity to influence and make a real difference in the community
  • Access to excellent training and development opportunities
  • Season ticket loans
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • A number of health and wellbeing schemes
  • A competitive contributory pension scheme and life assurance scheme with generous beneficiary plan
  • An onsite staff canteen
  • Access to plenty of free local street parking
