End of Life Companion volunteer

A touching close-up of hands symbolizing support and compassion between generations.

Why we need your help

Some of the most meaningful moments in a person’s life often happen as they approach the end of it.

End of Life Companion volunteers support people under St Christopher’s care and those close to them.  They visit people in their own homes or place of care, offering the kind of individual, unhurried support that can make a real difference.

This is a non-medical role: companions offer time and presence, sitting with someone as they explore their feelings, reflect on their life, or share what is on their mind.

Support for volunteers  in this role will be from the Hospice Doula, with opportunities to share observations, reflect on visits and think together about how the support is as meaningful and comfortable as possible for everyone involved.

This is a new and evolving role at St Christopher’s and we are initially seeking up to three volunteers.  New companions will not just be filling a position but will help shape what end of life companionship looks like.

Applications close Monday 12th October 2026
