Namaste/Compassionate Touch Supporter
Could you support patients and local people who are frail and elderly through the Namaste Care Programme?
Why we need your help
Patients and their families, along with members of our community find that coping with the practicalities, feelings and questions which arise when a serious, long-term or terminal illness is diagnosed can be challenging.
We are looking for volunteers to participate in a new initiative based on the Namaste Care Programme supporting patients and local people who are frail and elderly and those with a diagnosis of dementia or parkinson’s.
As a Namaste/Compassionate Touch Supporter you will visit people either where they live or in a community club to provide a range of wellbeing, engaging and sensory activities. You may also be invited to support family members and carers in learning Namaste techniques and skills. The visits will consist of a structured short term arrangement of 8 sessions; once these are complete you may choose to continue in a more informal way.
Namaste Care was developed by Joyce Simard; it is based on the power of loving touch and incorporates the attitude of slowing down so you can really be with people. When words fail, Namaste carers find other ways to communicate. It is a simple approach which provides opportunities to connect with people in meaningful ways.
