As their brand new Fiat Panda sat on the dealership forecourt, Sue and Steve Grindlay from Sydenham were sat inside at a desk putting their signatures on the paperwork that would finally confirm that the car was theirs.
Once they’d finished the paperwork we had a chance to ask them about the experience of winning the Christmas Raffle Grand Prize.
Steve, 74, said, “When St Christopher’s first called, they asked me if I was sitting down and it was a good thing they did, because the surprise of hearing we’d won the car took my breath away! I wasn’t really that aware that Sue had entered the raffle, so to hear we had won was amazing.”
Sue, 71, continued, “The funniest thing is Steve doesn’t even have a licence. I do all the driving and the first journey in the new car will be driving it up to the St Christopher’s shop in Beckenham where I volunteer. My colleagues at the shop were thrilled to hear we’d won.”
“We found out just before Christmas”, said Steve, “which was a nice thing to be able to share with the family when they came to visit. It isn’t every Christmas that someone gives you a car as a present! If you’re thinking of entering one of St Christopher’s raffles you have to give it a go – this is the first raffle I’ve ever won, so you never know when you’re going to get lucky.”
We wish Steve and Sue happy travels in their new car and the best of luck in entering the raffle at the Christmas Market next year.
